EDUCATORS NEEDED TO FIELD TEST REVISED NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION PROCESS

The National Board is seeking PreK-12 teachers in most content areas, as well as college and graduate students pursuing a teaching license, to volunteer to participate in field tests of the revised National Board Certification process. Over the next three years they’re looking for teachers in all subject areas and developmental levels corresponding to National Board certificate areas. A large number of teachers are required to complete the field testing process. Access the timeline table and details by clicking here.

This is a good opportunity to “test drive” the new certification process at no cost and no risk. It is not necessary to be Board certified to participate and you can pursue certification as a candidate at the same time. Click here for the application.

Golden LEAF Scholarship applications

are now available at CFNC.org/goldenleaf and are due on Saturday, March 1, 2014. A total of 215 awards will be offered to first-time recipients to assist with tuition at participating institutions for the 2014-15 academic year. The awards are valued at $12,000 ($3,000 per year for up to four years) for students from qualifying counties attending a participating North Carolina campus.

The scholarship program is funded by a Golden LEAF Foundation grant to the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA). Recipients are selected by NCSEAA based upon multiple factors including grade point average, financial need, length of residence in the county and the ability to communicate a commitment and desire to returning to a rural county that is economically distressed.

Candidates must submit a Golden LEAF scholarship application, available at CFNC.org/goldenleaf; a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), available at www.fafsa.gov; and a current high school or community college transcript no later than March 1.
